But who really needs junk unless you are a scrap yard near me company. Taking that old sink and water heater from your garage to the junk yard not only puts money in your pocket, but it helps the environment. And it also frees up space. Most Americans have more junk then they know what to do with. Just imaging having all that extra space so you could actually park your car in the garage this winter.
So what's the big item? The big item, in my, and many other people's view, are the water heaters. People throw these away without giving them a second thought. Sometimes you can even just 'buy' a broken water heater off someone for ten bucks and turn around and sell it for scrap.
At this point I like to remove the power supply as it will get the wires out of the way. In most cases the power supply is screwed to the outside of the case with either 2 or 4 screws. Once those are removed the supply comes loose. From there simply unplug the various wires from the boards and drives and then set the power supply aside for disassembly.
Selling scrap metal is not illegal. Collecting Scrap metal from the trash is not illegal in almost all places either! (BUT CHECK YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT'S LAWS. SOME CITY LAWS TICKET DUMPSTER DIVING, GO FIGURE!) dumpster diving is not illegal! One of the easiest examples is recycling a scrap Microwave oven. Also, remember that you must pay taxes on your scrap metal income. This also goes along with being professional; and if you are caught breaking this one, lord have mercy. Know the Scrap Metal Laws!
11. Furniture- I recommend trying Goodwill and Salvation Army. If that doesn't work, next I would try putting on Craigslist for free. Sometimes donation places can be a little picky about what they take, but the general public is usually a little more forgiving.
(3) Aluminum Cans: Most places have scrap yards that will buy aluminum cans. In California there is a CRV (cash redemption value) tax on most items that are recyclable. You pay the tax when items are purchased then you can take them to a scrap facility, have them weighed and get paid for them. On the east coast the value for aluminum and other metals has dropped but there is no CRV. Crush the cans once a week so they take up less space and cash them in once a month.
Auto recycling saves money. The owner will gain financially from the parts of the vehicle that are sold. Additionally those who choose to restore instead, are saved the additional expense of buying a new car.
Recycling is a way in which you are able to serve the community by protecting the environment. The best place to start your contribution towards humankind would be your home. Take a tour of your home and garage and you will find many metal items, which have not been used for years but still somehow manage to remain in the house. It is time to get all the clutter cleared. You will find items like batteries, metal jewellery, tin foil, unused tools, appliances, soda cans and much more. These are a few items, which are easily recycled. For large items like lawn movers or washer, you can call a local recycling center and they will get the items picked.
